Jurupa Valley Community Pro Rodeo: Where Tradition Meets Community Spirit

The Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association proudly presents the 2025 Jurupa Valley Community Pro Rodeo - a celebration of western heritage in the heart of Southern California

When the summer sun begins to warm the California landscape, the excitement starts building in Jurupa Valley. The dust of the arena, the thundering hooves, and the roar of the crowd are all part of the tradition that returns to Rick Thompson Arena on June 6-7, 2025, for the Jurupa Valley Community Pro Rodeo.

This PRCA-sanctioned event isn't just another stop on the rodeo circuit—it's a cornerstone of community pride where world-class competition meets hometown heart. As the California Circuit heats up, cowboys and cowgirls will be chasing crucial points and a share of the $7,000 purse that could help secure their path to championship glory.

The Heart of Rodeo Country

Nestled in the scenic Jurupa Valley, Rick Thompson Arena transforms into the epicenter of western sports for this special weekend. The arena's intimate setting creates an electric atmosphere where fans can feel the ground shake beneath their boots during the bull riding and hear the subtle communication between team ropers as they coordinate their runs.

For two action-packed days, this venue becomes more than just an arena—it's where memories are made, where children first experience the magic of rodeo, and where community bonds strengthen through shared tradition.

World-Class Competition

The Jurupa Valley Community Pro Rodeo brings together elite athletes competing in seven classic events that test the skill, courage, and precision of both human and animal athletes:

Bareback Riding – Often called rodeo's most physically demanding event, bareback riders grip a simple handhold while matching their timing to horses bred to buck. With only one hand to hold on, these athletes demonstrate incredible core strength and balance as they spur in rhythm with the horse's movements.

Steer Wrestling – The ultimate display of timing and strength, where cowboys leap from horseback onto a running steer, using technique and leverage to bring the animal to a halt. Mere seconds separate champions from the rest of the field.

Team Roping – The only true team event in rodeo, where precision and partnership are everything. The header and heeler must coordinate perfectly to rope a steer's horns and hind legs in a choreographed display of horsemanship.

Saddle Bronc Riding – Rodeo's classic event traces its roots directly to ranch work, as cowboys demonstrate control and grace atop specially bred bucking horses. The mark of a champion is making the violent bucking look like a rhythmic dance.

Tie-Down Roping – A test of speed, accuracy, and gentle livestock handling that showcases the skills working cowboys use daily. After roping a calf from horseback, the competitor dismounts to tie three legs—a demonstration of practical ranching abilities.

Barrel Racing – Power meets precision as talented cowgirls and their equine partners navigate a cloverleaf pattern around three barrels. With times measured to the hundredth of a second, there's no room for error in this fast-paced fan favorite.

Bull Riding – The most dangerous eight seconds in sports closes each performance with an adrenaline rush. Riders must stay atop a spinning, twisting, bucking bull with nothing but a flat braided rope for support.

The youngest fans will delight in the Mutton Bustin' competition, where future rodeo champions aged 4-7 test their courage by riding sheep in a scaled-down version of bull riding that often produces the biggest smiles of the night.

More Than Just Competition

While the competitive events form the backbone of the rodeo, the Jurupa Valley Community Pro Rodeo delivers a complete entertainment experience. The arena will come alive with the colorful commentary of a professional announcer who guides spectators through the action while rodeo clowns provide both comic relief and crucial protection for fallen competitors.

Between events, fans can enjoy lively music that sets the perfect western atmosphere. The vendor area will feature western wear, handcrafted items, and memorabilia—perfect for finding that authentic piece of rodeo culture to take home.

No rodeo experience would be complete without satisfying your appetite, and the food vendors will offer everything from traditional barbecue to sweet treats, ensuring no one goes home hungry.

Community Impact

What truly sets the Jurupa Valley Community Pro Rodeo apart is its commitment to giving back. This isn't just entertainment—it's purpose with a passion. The event supports local charities and community initiatives, turning a weekend of fun into a lasting positive impact.

Local businesses rally around the rodeo, providing sponsorships that help make the event possible while showcasing their commitment to preserving western heritage. For many area businesses, rodeo weekend represents one of the year's busiest and most profitable times.

Volunteers from throughout Jurupa Valley and surrounding communities come together to ensure the rodeo's success, demonstrating the collaborative spirit that defines this event. From arena preparation to contestant hospitality, these dedicated individuals are the unsung heroes who keep the tradition alive.
